Tim became interested in construction while working for the Andersen Window Corporation when he was in his early twenties. At Andersen’s he worked as a factory floor worker, custodian, forklift driver, and as a special blue glass projects field representative covering the Kansas and Missouri region After leaving Andersen’s, Tim had a career in the Alcohol and Drug Abuse field eventually becoming the Manager of Behavioral Health’s Family and Out-Patient Services at Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah, WI. With the death of his second brother, he moved back to Strum, WI to be closer to his family. Realizing the tax and payroll business in which he partnered with his father was not the best career choice, he decided to return to school. His interest in the building trades continued as the opportunity presented itself to get involved with the rental business through buying his uncle’s properties.
Last December he graduated with honors from Chippewa Valley Technical College with a degree in Business Management along with certificates in Small Business Marketing and Accounting. An internship was required as a part of his schooling, so he contacted CVH4H because of his interest in construction and wanting to be a part of a special ministry. Now as Project Manager for CVH4H he can see all the wonderful ways this ministry serves families in need. His goal is to be of service to the board, committees, members, community and families. His commitment is ot be that strong, reliable foundation for everyone at CVH4H.
This winter, the UWEC chapter of Habitat for Humanity had the opportunity to assist in the construction of homes in West Palm Beach, Florida. On January 11th, eleven of us students set off on a 26 hour road trip that took us through states such as Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. Although the trip was long, it was nice to see the snow slowly fade away as we made our way south. When we finally arrived in West Palm Beach, we were greeted by a representative of the affiliate for Palm Beach County. We were then taken to our house where we would be staying for the next six nights. The neighborhood and house we stayed in were very nice. We were given the day to explore the city, have dinner as a group, and enjoy the night. Our workweek would start the next day bright and early at 8:00 a.m.
Upon arrival at the construction site, we were welcomed by the construction workers who introduced themselves and gave us our tasks for the day. We started everyday this way, with morning meetings to assign responsibilities for that day. There were three houses we would be working on, all in different stages of construction. Everyday was different. We were given various tasks throughout the week, which made the work even more interesting. We did everything from painting, to laying sod, to putting together hurricane shutters. We even put up the frame of one of the houses! It was fascinating to see all the different stages of the houses and what went into building them. And while this kept us busy, we still got to enjoy ourselves a little.
West Palm Beach was an entertaining city. The beach was the main attraction while in Florida. We tried to make it to the beach everyday after work to cool off and relax. We were also able to do a little go-karting, laser tag, and shopping as well. As the end of the week neared, it got harder to leave. And while it was sad to say goodbye, it was great to see all the work we had done come together. So that Saturday it was back on the road for another 26 hours back to a blistery, below zero Wisconsin. Although it was over, we were all very proud of what we had accomplished on our Habitat winter break trip!
