About Us
Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity, Inc. became an affiliate on June 1, 1991. Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization. We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Our ministry was founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent place to live in dignity and safety. To accomplish these goals, we invite people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need. To find out more about Habitat for Humanity International, check out the HFHI website
Habitat succeeds because of its individual affiliates, each of which must arrange for building or renovating homes, selecting families to occupy those homes, and financing construction. Homes are affordable to low income families because volunteer labor and donated materials are used in the homes wherever possible. No-interest loans are made by the affiliates to the families who, in addition to making a small down payment, must help by providing sweat equity. To find out how to apply for a home, please look at Applying for a home.
The Chippewa Valley affiliate also supports a project in Papua, New Guinea. Bryan & Janell (Moy) Bargan and sons Josiah, Daniel, Micah & Caleb completed six years as International Partners in Papua New Guinea. Bryan, from Mountain Lake, Minnesota, was the National Coordinator for the country before returning to Minnesota.
The Chippewa Valley Affiliate continues to look for volunteers and committee members in a wide range of activities. Habitat also continues fund raising efforts to finance home construction. About $70,000 is needed to complete each house and average home is constructed by roughly 150 volunteers. Sign-up to become a volunteer today.
