About Us

Chippewa Valley Habitat for Humanity, Inc. became an affiliate on June 1, 1991. Habitat for Humanity International is an ecumenical, grass-roots Christian ministry with the goal of eliminating poverty housing in the world.  Unwilling to accept the fact that millions of people live without adequate shelter, Habitat challenges individuals, churches, companies, foundations and other organizations to join in partnership with the poor to change the conditions in which they live.  To find out more about Habitat for Humanity International, check out the HFHI website.

Habitat works because of its individual affiliates!  Each affiliate must arrange for building or renovating homes, selecting families to occupy those homes and financing for the building of the homes.  Homes are affordable to low income families because volunteer labor and donated materials are used in the homes wherever possible; no interest loans are made by the affiliates to the families; and the families must help with the building of their own and other homes (sweat equity).  To find out how to apply for a  home, please look at Applying for a Home.

The Chippewa Valley affiliate has also elected to help support a project in Papua, New Guinea.  Bryan & Janell (Moy) Bargan and sons Josiah, Daniel, Micah & Caleb completed six years as International Partners in Papua new Guinea.  Bryan, from Mountain Lake, Minnesota, was the National Coodinator for the country before returning to Minnesota.

With all that in mind, the Chippewa Valley Affiliate continues to look for volunteer workers and committee members. We also continue our fund raising efforts to finance the above mentioned building programs.  It is estimated that $70,000 will be needed to complete each of our houses and we average around 150 volunteers per home.
